Roads on permafrost
Yakutsk is notorious for the poor quality of the road surface. Some experts and officials explain this by the peculiarities of the sharply continental climate of the city with very cold winters, temperatures down to -60°C (-76°F), and short but hot summers, up to + 40°C (+104°F), as well as swampy soils of Tuymaada Valley.
