First steps to automation of portable garages

Roads on permafrost
In Yakutia the active use of portable garages started in 2015. Back then only brave ones decided to use them, because it was hard to believe that their car would make it through the winter under such a “car blanket” outside when the temperature is extremely low. But within a very short time motorists admitted all advantages of such garages: convenience in transportation and operation, efficiency, low conductivity and others. Today we see more and more car owners use such garages.

There are many companies on the market which supply and produce portable garages. New ideas have appeared on how to use the material used for making "car blankets" in different fields, such as hunting, fishing, agriculture and industry.

Despite their affordable price and other pros, the use of portable garages caused a number of inconveniences. Basically, they are related to the time and effort spent on covering the car and taking the blanket off. Female drivers and owners of full-size cars experience most of the difficulties. Storing a portable garage in the cabin causes discomfort due to unpleasant smell and lack of space in the trunk.

Over the last two years drivers started to store and transport their portable garages on the roofs of their cars, installing a trunk on the top. However, this pretty much spoils the appearance of the car and can even lead to a violation of its aerodynamics.

In the autumn of 2021 Sinet Spark team initiated a project to modernize portable garages, the ultimate goal of which is an automated system of covering and folding a garage on the roof of a car.

With the support of Sinet Spark two Yakut teams work on creating a prototype of a new version of a portable garage. At the same time, much attention is paid to both the design and shape of the future garage body frame and the introduction of automated systems. In the meantime one of the prototypes has successfully gone through trials and the next step will be its scaling and implementation. We hope that further development of the modernization of portable garages with the implementation of new technologies will allow us to create a fully automated system.

The obtained results served as the basis for the creation of a laboratory for the study of transport technologies in Sinet Spark. In the near future we will announce information about Spark Labs.
